sobosuba tips: make room for the next merge
Publisher's guide · Updated November 4, 2026
A useful sobosuba habit is to plan for space as well as score. These tips are ways to read the board—not promises of a particular score. The pile moves and deforms, so the most useful next move can change after each landing.
Look for a reachable match
A matching number is only part of the opportunity. Ask whether there is room to bring your jelly close to it. A clear target near the surface can be easier to plan around than one buried under several different numbers. If the target is crowded, look for another merge that could improve access instead of repeatedly sending blocks into the same narrow gap.
Check the rail before using more board space
Top-rail merging lets you change the incoming number before it enters the pile. If a useful pair is available above, compare the two options: launch the current number, or combine first. Do not merge at the top simply because you can. Think about the number you will make and whether there is an accessible partner for it below.
Watch the two sides separately
The run ends when both side switches are activated. If one side is already occupied, the other side becomes especially worth protecting. Look at where your shot will add pressure and whether a nearby merge could create a better opening. This is more informative than watching only the height of the tallest block in the center.
Read the result of each shot
A landing can push neighboring jellies and expose a different matching number. Give yourself time to understand that change before choosing the next target. Repeating the same aim without looking at the new arrangement can miss an opening or crowd an area that was clear a moment ago. The movement is part of the puzzle, not just its visual effect.
Practice one decision at a time
For a few runs, focus on one habit: checking the rail, choosing an accessible match, or noticing which side is crowded. This makes it easier to understand why a move helped. A larger number is satisfying, but keeping a useful space open can be the move that allows the next combination. Your personal best is recorded locally, so you can work toward your own next milestone.
When a plan does not work
Because the board is a physical pile, a planned landing may rearrange things differently than you expected. Reassess the current numbers and switches rather than trying to force the old plan. If you encounter behavior that appears stuck or incorrect, the support page explains what device and version details to send with a report.
